Yachting in Sicily
Sailing along the coast of Sicily is one of the most popular leisure activities among tourists. Sicily itself is very beautiful, but if you look at the Aeolian and other islands near Trapani, you will understand why so many yachts are moored at the main Sicilian ports: Palermo, Messina and others.
Sicily is an island of living legends and myths: the Cyclopes and Laistrygonians lived here, and both banks of the Strait of Messina, connecting Sicily with the Apennine Peninsula, are guarded by the monsters Scylla and Charybdis, and Sicily is also called the island of Helios (the god of the Sun). The island is divided into nine provinces: Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Catania, Enna, Messina, Palermo, Ragusa, Syracuse, Trapani.
"Paradise for sailing holidays" - this is how world-famous yachtsmen call Sicily. The climate on the islands is subtropical Mediterranean and quite mild. In autumn and summer, a dry, warm, steady wind blows from the Sahara - Sirocco, which is very suitable for sailing. It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the weather can start to deteriorate, as a result of which the wind can change to the north-west and become quite strong, especially in the coastal area, so our team of experienced specialists carefully plans their route and closely monitors the weather reports. Ports along the entire coastline, narrow "streets" and numerous beautiful villages make Sicily an idyllic place for a yacht cruise.
You can rent a yacht in Sicily anywhere on the coast. The most popular ports are Palermo and Messina, because they have a favorable geographical position. Another reason is that these cities are located on the main transport routes that are attractive to tourists.
The best port for yachts is Marsala. It is located in the western part of Sicily, where about a hundred yachts can be serviced at the same time. Marsala is a very convenient port from which you can travel by sea to the islands of the archipelago.
In the south of Sicily you can rent not only yachts, but also a small fishing boat with a crew. You can do this in many villages of port cities.
The best season for yachting in Sicily is from the end of April to the beginning of November. In many Sicilian ports, marine radio communication is only in Italian. So if you do not know Italian, you will need to invite a local skipper for a safe cruise.
